Angel

For Anne Sauzey

An angel stands
at the side of a lake,
one wing of day
and one wing of night

sorrowful waters
widening
before the angel’s sight,
slopes of sky risen

with muscular colour,
steep gradients
of oxygen
for the angel’s flight.
